What i hate in GMod servers is bad economies but at the same time I have absoloutely no clue how to balance one myself. I am putting a poll in my discord for some starting cashes and i want some peoples opinions on this and more. I know what im doing for everything but money balancing.

Some servers have 10 concurrent players and are running evocity n' shit, make updates and expand your server as you go, don't try to go full on since the beginning. So, as a player with 5k hours on gmod i thought it was about time to make my own GMod DarkRP server as a lot of the server are well, shit or good but not my thing. No server starts big, you have to get over it and adequate the server to the playerbase you have, not the playerbase you wish for. Getting up some protective measures are good, but they can never interfere on a normal gameplay. You don't have to do these absurd things to protect the server from abuse if you have a good moderation, like you don't have to cushion your walls if you tell your kid not to bang his head on them. Noclipping every moving prop or props you are standing on, 5 second cooldown to spawn each prop. I've seen servers treating the player base like a super protective mom treats her 5 yo son. Additionally, adding things like Advanced Precision and the SProps basic set is really good and can attract good players. Stacker and Wiremod (with DarkRP specific addons). Some people (me) like to make very good bases and shops, so the least you can do is add the Precision Tool, Adv Dupe. If such positions aren't in place, none of the normal admins will see things like this as their functions and will probably give priority to the "moderating" part of being a admin and just go to the server and ban people.

There should always be a guy for forum moderation (Forum Manager) and a guy who goes after suggestions and Mod Reports (Community Manager), after that you can get other special positions from server to server, like Rules Manager and others. Recruit people for specific jobs on the community. Especially in the case of someone who is always getting himself in trouble I've seen too many servers put up exact punishments for breaking each rule, this is not good in any situation.Ī interface for mods and players search the ban history of each other is a great addition too.

This especially means a super detailed version that the mods can rely on for when someone comes with the "this is not in the rules so you can't ban me for it" excuse for super specific and idiot situations.Ī system explained in the rules that, while reliable, let the mod have some autonomy on case-to-case punishments.

Players are different and some are not suited for moderating.Ī rule list aimed both at veteran visitors and newbies:Ī rule set with a short version for veterans who are looking for the do's and dont's before starting at a new server and a long version for new players. A good player not always makes a good admin. Players with respect for the community and good handling people and stress. I will not include obvious things like "no mod abuse!!!!" or "big downloads are baaaad!!!11!" "good host!!1!".Ī list of things i can think of the top of my head:

This time took place around 2012-2014 in Brazil, i don't know if these advises are valid to other countries, but i suppose they are. I think it goes without saying, some of the servers with (n+2 to the power of 4, jobs!) makes me wary and how many of these jobs have been either re-hashes or "I get to basically get away with RDM and theft with this job, because I paid the admin $20!" kind of deals going on.Įdit: This is what i can get form my ~800 hours as a DarkRP mod and ~1000 hours on DarkRP before I moved on to greener hills. Even the basic ones with DarkRP could do with some tweaking.Ĭars and Guns are a little subjective, Try making a server using left-hand drive only cars, the TDM pack has them, but they're not separate, and technically bloat the pack if you use a specific type of car. I have seen a couple of paid-for printer addons in action, felt it was too easy to level up and get money from them. May be behind a ULX_time (play for x-hours) limit to give it a fairer chance for anyone to play it.Ĭheck my list of suggested addons Wiremod is a favourite, especially using E2 for RP, like a bus-driver with a stop system for passengers. First up: Downloading a metric fuck-tonne of huge car-packs and player-models to find it's basically a subscription service to play them, annoying, especially considering the nature of Gmod in the first place.
